Mötley Crüe’s humble beginnings and rise to stardom are unapologetically portrayed in Netflix’s 2019 biopic The Dirt. Co-produced by Mötley Crüe themselves, the film still revealed some unflattering facts about the band. It has become quite clear that while they are all mad as hatters, Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx, and Mick Mars, cannot hold a candle to Tommy Lee’s brand of crazy.
Born Thomas Lee Bass in 1962 in Athens, Greece, Mötley Crüe’s infamous drummer has had many problematic moments, from feuds, arrests, tattoos, and riots to his many, highly public relationships. He has honestly never had a dull moment.
The gorgeous model Elaine Starchuk and Tommy Lee got married in 1984. However, their marriage was one of the shortest ever. Just seven days after tying the knot, the two separated, and their divorce was finalized within the year.
Starchuck was born in Vancouver, Canada, in 1964. As a girl, she had always dreamed of someday becoming a model and traveled to the U.S. to begin her career when she was old enough. After modeling in a few magazines, Hugh Hefner took her under his wing. Elaine became a Playboy Bunny and went by the name Candice.
After his breakup with Elaine, America’s bad boy quickly moved on to America’s sweetheart, Heather Locklear. At the time, Heather was starring in T.J. Hooker and Dynasty, and Tommy fell head over heels for her. They first saw each other backstage at a concert in Los Angeles and were engaged just three months later.
The famous couple tied the knot in 1986, but their union wasn’t made to last. Heather and Tommy cut ties in 1993 when she discovered that he had cheated on her with a porn star. Locklear went on to wed Bon Jovi’s guitarist.
After Heather, Tommy Lee went on to date Jenna Jameson, one of the most famous adult movie stars of all time. Jenna shared in her memoir, “[Tommy is a] cool guy; he’s also very affectionate — too affectionate for me.” She explained, “He wants to conquer every hot chick.”
Jameson shared about her dating history, saying, “All of the rock stars I’ve dated are all about having the trophy. But when people start focusing on you or asking for your autograph more often than theirs, they freak out.” The star later dated Marilyn Manson, who she called “a little scary.”
Bobbie Brown, the model and beauty pageant contestant, became famous after starring in Warrant’s music video for their song Cherry Pie. Brown then fell in love with Jani Lane, the lead singer. They were married in 1991, had a daughter a year later, and divorced by 1993.
After Lane, Bobbie moved on to Tommy Lee. They dated for a while and were even briefly engaged. But in February 1995, they called it quits. Four measly days later, Tommy married Pamela Anderson, who he’d known for only those four days since breaking up with Bobbie.
After getting married on February 19th, 1995, Tommy and Pamela decided to have their home in Malibu renovated. However, when the construction crew was done, Lee and Anderson weren’t happy with the final result and fired the team without paying them for their work.
Legend has it that their electrician, Rand Gauthier, was so angry at not being paid that he almost stole the $20,000 they owed him. However, instead, he got his revenge a different way. Tommy would later understand that not paying them had been a crucial mistake.
After being fired, Rand and the rest of the crew came back to Pam and Tommy’s house to get their tools. But apparently, Tommy threatened them to get off of his property with a gun. So, Rand got revenge by stealing the safe from Tommy’s garage. When he opened it, the electrician couldn’t believe how lucky he was.
Inside the safe was Pamela and Tommy’s sex tape. Gauthier was more than an electrician; he had connections in the adult film industry. So, he passed the video on to a friend, who soon made it public, despite Lee’s lawyering.
Unfortunately, Pamela and Tommy’s relationship wasn’t healthy. David Hasselhoff went as far as to claim that Lee was insecure about Anderson being a national sex symbol due to Baywatch. The drummer would get mad whenever the actress had romantic scenes. Once, he became physically violent and was removed by force from the set.
The couple had two boys together- Brandon Thomas Lee, born in 1996, and Dylan Jagger, in 1997. But by 1998, Pamela filed for divorce, stating abuse. She claimed that Tommy was jealous of the attention she showed to their kids and had become violent with her.
Soon fans worldwide will again gain incite into the infamous couple’s marriage. Hulu has announced a new series called Pam & Tommy about their tumultuous relationship. Sebastian Stan and Lily James will play Lee and Anderson. The show is set to follow their entire history, from the shotgun wedding to the sex tape.
Pamela and Tommy’s friends have expressed worry about the upcoming series. Courtney Love, Pam’s friend, trashed the show on Twitter, explaining that the relationship “destroyed [her] friend Pamela’s life.” Nevertheless, it seems the show is still on as the actors keep posting about it.
When Mötley Crüe was just starting, Tommy and the gang were roommates on Sunset Strip. Their old apartment is even mentioned in their 1987 hit “Girls, Girls, Girls.” However, their apartment wasn’t exactly the glamorous bachelor pad one might imagine. In truth, they lived in some very dirty digs.
Apparently, the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services had to force the band to remove loads of trash from their yard. The pad also was infested with rats and cockroaches. Mötley Crüe couldn’t afford an exterminator and fought the disgusting animals with their hair spray and lighters.
During a Mötley Crüe show in 1997 in North Carolina, Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx assaulted a Black security guard named John Allen. Sixx went on a racist rant and told his audience of 2,500 fans to harass the guard. Nicki then kicked, spat at, and asked the lighting director to shine a spotlight on Allen.
Allen ran off the stage, attempting to protect himself from the audience while Lee dumped beer on his head. Two years later, when they came back to North Carolina, Sixx was arrested, and Lee turned himself in. Allen later sued the band.
Lee had another altercation with the law when he was arrested for abusing Pamela in 1998. According to the report, he beat her up while she breastfed their baby, Dylan. Pam shared that he kicked her from behind many times. She sustained “bruises, a torn fingernail and fear for the safety of her two sons, Dylan and Brandon.”
Lee was sentenced to half a year in L.A. County Jail but served only four months. Meanwhile, Pam tried filing for sole custody of the boys. Though in the end, she and Tommy kept getting back together until 2010.
At one point, Tommy Lee was accused of attacking a Jewish photographer named Henry Trappler outside of the famous Viper Room in L.A. Eyewitnesses noticed that Lee had a tattoo of a swastika on his arm. The drummer’s lawyer claimed that the tattoo would “inflame the jury and create unfair prejudice against Lee.”
Tommy denied that the tattoo had racist intent, explaining that it’s a Buddhist symbol. But her nevertheless had it removed. The judge sentenced Lee to two years on probation and had him pay Trappler $17,500 in damages. Even now, Tommy insists he’s “definitely not a Nazi.”
Most people don’t know that Pamela Anderson wasn’t the only Baywatch star Tommy dated. He also had a thing with Pam’s costar Carmen Electra in 1999. However, their romance was short-lived, and Carmen moved on to other musicians, like Dave Navarro from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Fred Durst from Limp Bizkit, B-Real, and Prince.
However, it was rumored back in 2017 that Electra and Lee were rebooting their long-lost love after they were seen canoodling a Coachella. Carmen indeed loves a rockstar boyfriend, and Tommy can’t seem to get enough of beach babes in red bathing suits.
During a 2001 party for Lee’s son Brandon’s birthday, tragedy struck. Daniel Karven-Veres, a four-year-old, fell into Lee’s pool and drowned to death. The child was discovered floating face down in the shallow end. In the 911 call, Tommy said, “There’s a big pool party here… no one was paying attention.”
Daniel’s mom, actress Ursula Karven, sued Lee for her son’s tragic death, arguing that the drummer was negligent for not having a lifeguard at the party, where no one knew CPR. Tommy was cleared after claiming that all attendees were accompanied by babysitters and parents who were meant to supervise.
However, Tommy was not innocent of abusing his own children. It is rumored that he dangled his baby boy in front of a giant, angry rottweiler. Furthermore, Pamela admitted, “Brandon has told me that Tommy hurts him and pinches him and Dylan. Dylan has told me that he hates me for making him go to his father’s.”
Not only that, he made both sons watch traumatizing videos of 9/11 and other violent things. He supposedly took the boys on a boating trip right after their friend died in the pool, not understanding that they were scared of the water.
Aside from Carmen Electra, there was another star who had relationships with both Tommy Lee and Prince- singer, dancer, and actress Mayte Garcia. Garcia met Prince when she was only 16, and they were married in 1996. Sadly, after the couple lost a child in 2000, they divorced.
It seems that Mayte thought dating Tommy when she was down was a good idea, and they were even engaged from 2002 and 2003. When Tommy met Prince, he said, “Yo, Prince! My name is Tommy Lee. I don’t want to bug you; I just want to say that you’re f***ing amazing.”
Before Tommy became the drummer of Mötley Crüe, he was a drummer in Covina, California’s high school marching band. That wasn’t the only time he joined a marching band. In the 2005 reality show “Tommy Lee Goes to College,” Lee attended Nebraska University and tried out for the Cornhuskers.
Tommy shared, “I tried out for the drumline… and I had two weeks to learn their half-time show and all the drum patterns. And when I made the cut, they told me I could perform the half-time show with them. I went out there and rocked the show.”
But Tommy never actually graduated high school; he dropped out when he was seventeen years old. He was in his senior year, with just months left before graduation, when Mötley Crüe got a record deal. Tommy shared how disappointed his parents had been.
But he’d thought, “OK, go rock the entire planet and rip it, or stay in school for three months and get a diploma?” Back then, Sixx wanted to name the metal band “Christmas.” But the other members vetoed his decision and settled on Mottley Cru before adding the metal umlauts, inspired by their favorite German beer Löwenbräu.
Another fun fact about the notorious bad boy is that he loves circuses. The rock star has even explained, “I’ve just always called my world “Tommyland” — like Disneyland, but a lot crazier.” He admitted that he especially loves “little people” who fascinate him.
Maybe Tommy just wants to be like Ozzy Osbourne, who was always seen in the company of 3’10” John Edward Allen. Allen was a huge fan of Ozzy’s and went to all his shows and was also famous in his own right for appearing in the 1982 sci-fi masterpiece, Blade Runner.
In 2004, after being introduced by Sean Combs, aka P. Diddy, Tommy admitted that he was “kind of going out” with Naomi Campbell. He also defended the gorgeous supermodel to the press, saying, “I know people say she’s a little hard to work with, but she’s not like that around me. She’s sweet.”
In a phone interview, a reporter from the Morning Show once asked Tommy, “Heather Locklear, Pamela Anderson, Naomi Campbell, Pink… Out of all your lovers, who was the best one?” Unwilling to answer such an impossible question, Tommy said “Goodbye,” and hung up.
P!nk, who always felt Missundaztood, was another victim of Tommy’s charisma. In 2003, the popular musician dated Lee casually. Whether they were official was never confirmed, although they were often seen displaying their affection publicly. Pamela Anderson publicly announced on The Howard Stern Show that Tommy was sleeping with P!nk in 2004.
After Tommy appeared in one of her music videos, P!nk said, “Lee is one of the f**king hottest musicians left. He has managed to stay above the tides: He is an awesome f**king drummer… And he is hot.” She later shared, “I don’t know who dumped who.”
Much of the dirt revealed in the book “The Dirt” is about Tommy Lee’s infamous dating history. For instance, one weird story told in the biography alleged that the drummer once slept with a fan because he desperately wanted to drive her car, a Jaguar XJS.
Vince Neil shared that the fan agreed to let Tommy drive her car on the condition that he would sleep with her. Nikki later walked in on them, and when Tommy saw him, he said happily, “I gotta go, man. I’m gonna drive her car.”
Considered louder than hell, Mötley Crüe has been rumored to be Satanists. One reason for this is the pentagram they used on the cover of their 1983 album, Shout at the Devil. Nikki Sixx admitted that he wanted the album to delve deep into the concept of evil and loved satanic paraphernalia.
He later professed that the president at the time was the devil he’d referred to in the title. Another band member, Vince Neil, shared, “Some people said we were Satanic and angry. We always thought that was funny, but we were like, Hey, if it gets us attention…”
According to American Pie star Tara Reid, she could drink Tommy Lee under the table. The two were rumored to have hooked up in Las Vegas and then continued dating for a while in 2005, back home in Los Angeles. Lee said the notorious party girl was “out of her f***ing mind” and “crazy” if she thought she could out-drink him.
When asked about his relationship with Reid, Lee shared, “We’re just playing and having fun. She’s rad!” Tara, on the other hand, always denied ever dating Tommy. She insisted that they were just friends.
Jenna Jameson wasn’t the only Porn star that Tommy was involved with. In 2006, when he was forty-three, Tommy was said to be seeing Stefani Morgan, a twenty-year-old adult film star. Apparently, they first met at the after-party for the Adult Video News Awards in Vegas. Tommy probably went there to pick up girls…
Despite a friend on Morgan’s saying that the porn star and Tommy had “been seeing a lot of each other ever since,” Stefani herself denied dating Lee. Is it just me, or is denying ever dating Tommy becoming a trend?
After his supposed fling with Stefani, Tommy moved on to Erin Naas. She was a Victoria’s Secret model at the time and later moved on to acting. In 2009, Naas appeared in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen as the Autobot Arcee. She also modeled for Maxim and Sports Illustrated.
Their romance was short-lived, and there are not many details about it, but one thing is for sure… Tommy Lee was probably really pissed off when Erin started dating his arch-nemesis Kid Rock just a month after they broke up.
Aside from being a reality star and a model, Kimberly Stewart is of rock and roll royalty. Kim is one of the eight kids of rock-god, Rod Stewart. Back in 2007, Tommy Lee was lucky enough to be linked with her. Hopefully, he treated her alright and didn’t start any beef with Rod.
A fan saw the two in N.Y. and shared, “They threw their arms around each other, and she started saying, ‘Baby, baby,’ before kissing and leaving.” But even their romantic, rock and roll love affair wasn’t built to last. Was Tommy Lee living too fast for love?
Kid Rock and Tommy have had a feud going on for years. Most people think it all started because both men were married to Pamela Anderson. However, Kid Rock claims that it was something else entirely. He insists that Tommy was disrespectful towards him throughout Lee and Anderson’s divorce and said the drummer sent him nasty emails.
The beef got way worse in 2007 when the two had a fistfight at the MTV Music Awards. Tommy was shocked and said that he was just minding his own business when the other musician hit him in the face.
Niece of Oscar de la Hoya, Daisy De La Hoya had a short stint with Tommy Lee in 2008 after he ended things with Kim Stewart. You might remember Daisy from the reality show Rock of Love, in which she and other ladies competed for the affections of Bret Michaels, the lead singer of Poison.
Daisy stood about from the crowd and ended up getting her own spinoff show, Daisy of Love. Aside from Bret Michaels and Tommy Lee, de la Hoya was also involved with Dave Navarro of Jane’s Addiction. We think she likes being a rock star girlfriend…
Another woman that Tommy claims to have dated is Victoria Silvstedt, the Swedish model, singer, and television personality. The two were seen making out in Las Vegas in 2009, but it seems that things never got serious. What is it with Tommy Lee and Las Vegas flings?
Later, the casual duo was seen at a club in the most romantic city in the world, Paris. Supposedly, Lee had been hired to D.J. at the party but instead spent his evening canoodling with the Playmate of the Year. He really is an insatiable womanizer.
One of Lee’s more recent conquests is Sofia Toufa, the Greek-German singer and rapper, who you may know by her stage name SOFI. These two lasted together for quite a while. Between 2009 to 2016, they dated and were even engaged from 2014 until they broke it off.
No one knows why they broke it off, but it’s common knowledge that Tommy moved on extremely quickly, as usual. He first encountered his next leading lady, Brittany Furlan, online. She was the most-followed woman on Vine in 2015, and Tommy followed her on social media long before they met IRL.
Tommy Lee and Mötley Crüe were sued in 2012 for $400,000. Why, you ask? Howard Scott King explained that the “Tommy Lee Loop Coaster,” the famous revolving drum set was actually his idea. King claimed that he pitched the revolving set to the drummer and never heard back, but they went on to use it without his consent.
Despite King’s convincing case, the judge dismissed the claim on the grounds that King never owned the rights to the roller-coaster drums. Therefore, even if the idea was King’s, Tommy had the right to create his own version of the revolving set.
You know the actor Nicolas Cage? Well, his son Weston, aka Arcane Cage, is the lead singer for the black metal band, Eyes of Noctum. In 2013, Cage and Weston went to a Mötley Crüe show in Las Vegas and later hung backstage with Vince Neil. But when Arcane accidentally blocked Tommy’s way, the two got riled up.
Rumor has it that “Tommy tried to shove past Weston… telling him to get… out of his way. Then, Weston started screaming, swearing, and hollering at Tommy and challenging him to a fight.” Thankfully, someone stepped in before they came to blows.
Even though Nick Cage’s kid didn’t punch Tommy, his own son did. In 2018, Tommy’s fiancé dialed 911 after Lee and his son Brandon got into a physical fight. The reason Brandon was angry was because Tommy had posted something mean about Pamela Anderson.
According to Tommy, his son hit him so hard that he lost consciousness. Along with a picture of his swollen lip, Tommy shared on social media: “Good job, Brandon. Great son!” Pamela also commented on Brandon’s behavior and wrote: “He punched him in the nose for all of us who he has hurt.”
Brittany Furlan, former Vine star and current wife of Tommy Lee, was the one who called the police. She and Lee met in real life in 2017, after being online fans of each other for years beforehand. In February 2018, they became engaged and were married a year after he got down on one knee.
Although the gorgeous influencer is 23 years younger than her new hubby, she isn’t too young to fall in love. Hopefully, Tommy is ready to slow down and stop chasing after so many girls, girls, girls, at least long enough to give Brittany a chance.
