A Tough Set of Early Years
Cher’s early years with her mother were rough. The two traveled around the country and lived in several states – from California to New York to Texas. Her mother took up waitressing to support them in the initial years. Financial distress even forced Georgia to drop Cher at an orphanage one time.
They didn’t have much money growing up and sometimes used rubber bands to hold their shoes together. Her mother’s hard work slowly came to fruition when she started to get minor roles as extras in films and television shows. She even successfully kept an eye out for her daughters to take up roles on television.
