Years Later, Where is the Forest Gump Cast Now?

Forrest Gump is Tom Hanks’ most revered role, and he portrays the titular character most remarkably. We know he’s had several amazing performances over the years, but there’s something special about this one. It wasn’t just his crooked-spine character that made the movie a classic, though.

The film is made up of a great cast. Their performances make the film, and it simply wouldn’t be the same without one of them. Almost 30 years after its release, we look at Forrest Gump characters before and what they’re up to these days.

Michael Conner Humphreys, the 8-Year-Old Adult

We saw Forrest as a boy and followed his journey into manhood. Humphreys plays young Forrest. He made his first appearance in this iconic film. And surprisingly, he was only eight years old when he auditioned. And yeah, he killed it.

Source: Paramount Pictures

Though his character lasted for a short time, he made a strong impact. Forrest’s look and how he talks are modeled after Humphreys’. His debut was successful and one of the decade’s greatest films. Interesting. It is either pure luck or just because he is so talented.

Do Stars Get to Choose?

Michael Humphreys had an amazing start as an actor but has stopped acting professionally. He doesn’t want fame and has chosen to have a normal life in his hometown in Mississippi. In John Grisham’s A Painted House, he acted briefly in high school and even had an uncredited appearance.

Humphreys completed high school, and then he joined the army. He enrolled in a college after returning from Iraq and began a career as a teacher. He was last seen in the independent film Pathfinders: In the Company of Strangers. He has, however, expressed his desire to act again possibly.

Sally Field – Moms Are Made, Not Born

Every movie addict knows Sally Field. She got a huge career boost for her role in the miniseries Sybil. She had played parts in movies before Forrest Gump. She has won Oscars for Best Actress for her roles in the films Norma Rae and Places in the Heart.

Source: Paramount Pictures

Sally plays Forrest Gump’s mother. She is a sweet mom and loves Forrest more than the world. Sally Field embodied the role even though she is just ten years older than Tom Hanks. She has gotten BAFTA and SAG awards nominations for her role in the film.

Made it Beyond Hollywood

Sally Field is still doing great after Forrest Gump. She has since been nominated for Oscars and won two Emmys for her guest appearance on ER and as the lead on Brothers & Sisters. She is Aunt May in The Amazing Spider-Man, the highest-grossing film of her career.

She wrote an autobiography in 2018 titled In Pieces, which detailed her personal life and career. She has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And recently, she has been fighting for societal advancements she believes in and even got arrested at a climate change protest in 2019.

Mykelti Williamson as Bubba Blue

Mykelti Williamson debuted in Streets on Fire in 1984. His role as Bubba Blue in Forrest Gump is one of his popular film roles, and he has played several parts in films and television shows. He also starred in Free Willy as Dwight the social worker and has acted in the sequel.

Williamson wore a prosthetic lower lip in the film. That explains why he has a protruding lip that makes him look funny. Popular comedian Dave Chapelle turned down the role, a decision he admits he later regrets because the movie would have made him famous at the time.

Mykelti Williamson After Forrest Gump

Williamson became more popular after Forrest Gump was released. He has taken roles in several films over the years. He had parts in films like Soul of the Game, Get Rich or Die Tryin’, ATL, Lucky Number Slevin, Black Dynamite, The Final Destination, and many more.

Tom Hanks – The ‘T’ in Talent

Tom Hanks is the film’s biggest character. He is an incredible actor, and his works simply speak for him. He won Oscars twice consecutively for Philadelphia and Forrest Gump. He is an all-around artist, and it is safe to say that only he could have played the lead like that.

Source: Paramount Pictures

He wasn’t the director’s first choice for the lead. John Travolta was first chosen, but he declined the role. Other actors were Chevy Chase, Bill Murray, and Sean Penn, who ironically married the character Jenny in real life. Hank surely gives us the perfect experience we need.

Tom Hank Now Rides in Presidential Tint

Today, he is still one of Hollywood’s most successful and talented actors. His filmography reads like a list of some of the decade’s best films. Since Forrest Gump, he has gotten three Oscar nominations. He also received a Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016 from President Obama.

Besides acting, Hanks has produced a couple of great films, his best being the HBO show Band of Brothers. He also wrote and directed the films That Thing You Do and Larry Crowne. His book, Uncommon Type, published in 2017, has been met with critical acclaim.

Gary Sinise – Disabled but Not Defeated

It’s safe to say everyone loves Lieutenant Dan. His character was dynamic and passionate. Sinise’s excellent performance also makes the character so memorable in our hearts. Sinise’s legs were amputated, so an extraordinary actor was required to make an impact in a wheelchair. Sinise was up for the job!

Before Forrest Gump, he acted mainly in theater and television. However, his big role as Lieutenant Dan stepped him up in his career. He made his big-screen debut in Of Mice and Men, where he acted as George. It was also the second film he directed.

How Fast Can He Walk?

Sinise had other roles with Tom Hanks in Apollo 13 and The Green Mile. He was in films like The Quick and the Dead, Ransom, Snake Eyes, and Mission to Mars. He also took on another big role in CSI: NY, where he played Detective Mac Taylor for nearly a decade.

He has been on TV shows like Criminal Minds and 13 Reasons Why. He founded the Gary Sinise Foundation and has raised over $35 million to support disabled veterans. He isn’t just a cheerful giver; he helps set them up with disability-friendly smart homes.

Haley Joel Osment – From Pizza Hut to the World

Haley Joel Osment appeared in a Pizza Hut commercial, giving him a major film role. Before that, he was never in films or television shows. The 6-year-old acted first in Forrest Gump. He isn’t in many scenes in the film, but the few times are emotional and remarkable.

Source: Paramount Pictures

Though he was impressive in Forrest Gump, not many people saw how great he would become. He played a major role in The Sixth Sense (1999), which became his biggest film. He became one of the most prominent child stars and one of the youngest Academy Award nominees.

The Grown Child Star

Osment has acted in more high-profile movies after Sixth Sense. He is in movies like Pay It Forward (2000) and Steven Spielberg’s Artificial Intelligence (2001). Recently, his acting career hasn’t made much noise because he plays supporting roles. He has also focused more on acting in independent films.

The wonderful actor has done lots of TV shows. He played a recurring role in Future Man and guest parts in several films. In 2008, he appeared on Broadway and made a debut with American Buffalo. Recently, he has been prolific as a video game voice actor.

Geoffrey Blake as Wesley

Forrest Gump wants you to love its cast. It is sweet-natured, but some characters are also flawed and conflicted. Wesley is the one character we can treat as the bad guy. He is Jenny’s boyfriend but isn’t a great guy. Forrest is unhappy with him, and so are we.

Source: YouTube

Blake’s first movie appearance is not in Forrest Gump. He debuted in The Last Starfighter and featured in Secret Admirer and Young Guns. He has doubled as a voice actor, Ralph, in Ferngully: The Last Rainforest and played a guest role in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Once a Bad Boy…

He has worked with Tom Hanks a few more times. He starred in Apollo 13, cast Away, and Contact, which Robert Zemeckis directed. His popular films include Wag the Dog, Mighty Joe Young, EDtv, and Frost/Nixon. He was last seen in a war film, Midway.

Blake has more acting roles following his appearance in Forrest Gump, mostly on television shows. He is in Private Practice, Grey’s Anatomy, episodes of Criminal Minds, and a popular NBC TV series, Grimm. His most recent work is the show Charmed.

Robin Wright as Jenny

Everybody deserves a bit of romance. Jenny is the woman Forrest never stops loving. Though they have typically separate lives, they keep finding each other. Robin Wright is so beautiful; it is not hard to tell one reason why Forrest was head over heels for her.

Source: Paramount Pictures

Robin Wright began acting as a teenager. She made a big break in the soap opera Santa Barbara when she appeared in 538 episodes. That’s fairly big! She also has big roles in films like The Princess Bride and Toys. She is distinctively known for her role as Jenny.

Robin Wright After Forrest Gump

Robin Wright has gotten more success since Forrest Gump. She added a new name, Penn, when she married actor Sean Penn in 1996, but the union ended in 2010. She has played major roles in films like Unbreakable, Moneyball, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Wonder Woman.

Wright has eight Primetime Emmy nominations for Forrest Gump and three Daytime Emmy nominations for soap operas. Forrest Gump author Winston Groom sheds light in his sequel novel that Jenny’s death was caused by Hepatitis C, an infection she contracted doing drugs, and not HIV as many people suspected.

Hanna R. Hall as Young Jenny

Hanna R. Hall plays the younger version of Jenny and young Forrest’s counterpart, while Robin Wright plays the adult role. Just like Michael Humphreys, Forrest Gump was her first movie appearance. Hall, who grew up in Colorado, went for the audition when she was just seven years old.

Though Sam Anderson’s role as Principal Hancock was not a major one, and he wasn’t one of the biggest names in the film industry, the actor did his best. Anderson has made regular appearances on TV shows and acted in films since the 1970s.

Source: Paramount Pictures

Forrest Gump has some supporting actors like Richard, who only appeared a few times but left a lasting impression on the viewers. Abbie Hoffman made many of us laugh when he engaged Forrest in a conversation while he was on stage at a protest in Vietnam.

Before Forrest Gump, D’Alessandro played a couple of minor roles in small films. There is no such a thing as a small role, nor is D’Alessandro a small actor. No one who watches Forrest Gump would forget how good his acting is in just a few scenes.

Richard D’Alessandro’s Career After Forrest Gump

Richard appeared in the 2010 comedy show Just Wright, which also starred Queen Latifah, and the film Common. He continues to play small parts on the big screen. He acted as a gangster in Analyze This and as a restaurant patron in Mickey Blue Eyes.

Dick Cavett as Himself

Dick Cavett appeared in Forrest Gump but acted as himself. The film has a couple of scenes where Forrest meets with historical figures though they simply use cutting-edge special effects. It was, however, real when legendary talk show host Dick Cavett met with Forrest.

Source: YouTube

Cavett is the only person in the film to play himself. He only appears younger in the film because he wore makeup. Forrest and John Lennon were guests on his show at the same time. Unlike Cavett and Hanks, John Lennon was represented here using historical footage.

The Dick Cavett Show

His popular show, The Dick Cavett Show, ended in 1986, which is still the last show he hosted. He has only appeared in other shows or films. People still watch his show today on YouTube, making way for a new set of fans.

There have been a few tough times in Cavett’s personal life, especially when he lost his wife, Carrie Nye, a successful actress. She battled lung cancer before her untimely death in 2006. Dick Cavett remarried in 2010 to Martha Rogers, a renowned author of business books.

Peter Dobson as Elvis Presley?

Forrest was lucky to have met those great figures from the 20th century. Elvis Presley couldn’t make it because, erm, as we all know, he was unavailable. Dobson did a great job acting like him, with his voice done uncredited by Kurt Russell.

Source: YouTube

Tex only played a small part in the film, but what made his role stick is the scene where Forrest saved his life. He has played minor roles in other films like The Program, and he was on an episode of the series In the Heat of the Night.

Steven Griffith Has Had a Limited Career

Before his appearance in Forrest Gump, Griffith acted in a television movie called Scattered Dreams. Two years after Forrest Gump was released, he played a part in a film called The Uninvited. In 2005, he featured in a film called Our Very Own with actor Allison Janney.
