BMW
Some of you may know a BMW better as a Bimmer (yes, that’s the correct spelling, we checked). But have you ever wondered what the luxury German car company’s name stands for? In German is stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke, which translates to Bavarian Motor Works in English.
The car company was founded in Munich, Germany, in 1916, but at the time, the company mostly made plans, not cars. Although the brand is very successful today, this wasn’t always the case. In the late ‘50s, BMW was close to going bankrupt and was almost bought by their biggest competitor—Daimler- Benz.
