Amber Heard, Shaq, Oprah: People Share Their Worst Celebrity Encounters

Have you ever thought about what it’ll feel like to meet one of your favorite celebrities? You probably don’t know how you’ll react, but you wish they’d behave in a certain way. They could greet you with a smile, pose for a picture, and sign an autograph.

Source: Tumblr

It’ll be amazing to have some small talk too. But things can be pretty different in real life. Some celebrities get fed up with being hounded by paparazzi and are tired half the time, while others are just rude. Here are some Redditors who shared awkward celebrity encounters.

Kiefer Sutherland Needs to Learn Some Manners

British-born Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland is best known for playing the role of Jack Bauer in the popular TV series “24.” His father, Donald Sutherland, is also an accomplished actor. But for all of Kiefer Sutherland’s success, he doesn’t look like he learned some simple manners.

According to this Redditor, it seems Sutherland thinks his fame gives him the right to be disrespectful and curse at other people. This casino staff was just being courteous, only to get a venomous reply to his “Have a nice day” greeting after being ignored twice before. Manners are everything.

James Franco Wasn’t Impressed

Let’s take a moment and put ourselves in James Franco’s shoes. Imagine sitting in a coffee shop just enjoying your day, and a stranger hits your arm out of nowhere, asking about your mustache. It’s understandable that the actor was caught off guard and didn’t respond nicely.

Being disturbed while enjoying himself at the coffee shop didn’t make Franco happy. Although these fans will say they meant well, let’s ignore the fact that he’s a celebrity for a minute. These “fans” need to learn some courtesy. No wonder they left in shame and deservedly so.

Heath Ledger’s Method Acting Madness

Heath Ledger spent about six weeks in a hotel room in order to get into the mind of The Joker. He was surrounded by inspirational content and material for his character. The Australian actor completely immersed himself into this character, and he even kept a disturbing diary.

Source: Warner Bos.

Ledger’s method acting meant he would stay in character, even when filming hadn’t started. And as commendable as this was, it scared some of the production crew. This Redditor claimed he walked circles around his friend, licking his lips, and breathing down her neck while in full makeup and character.

Getting a Chunk of Phlegm From Samuel L. Jackson

Everyone knows Samuel L. Jackson. He’s one of Hollywood’s iconic actors and a wonderful performer. He has starred in several hit movies such as “Django Unchained,” “Pulp Fiction,” and “Black Snake Moan” (as this story points out). If this story is true, then the actor needs some table manners.

According to the Redditor’s account, “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” sneezed on his arm after a meal in Salt Lake City, which left a “chunk of phlegm.” He pretended it didn’t happen, but we hope Mr. Jackson didn’t mean to do that. Besides the constant “mother******,” he seems like a nice guy.

Forcing Marilyn Manson to Sign an Autograph

Meeting a celebrity is unreal and getting them to sign an autograph for you feels fantastic. But imagine FORCING them to sign after they initially refused. Now, that’s something. Marilyn Manson is an industrial metal performer best known for his unique image, but he was less than impressive here.

According to this story, flatly dismissing someone’s respectful autograph request in an elevator is disappointing. Unfortunately for Manson, things escalated quickly, which ended with him cowering in the corner and his bodyguard rethinking his career choice as his head was stuck firmly in a wrestler’s headlock.

I Am the King

This story is more about Prince’s irritating manager (or crew member) than the musical icon himself. But celebrity employees are usually an extension of their bosses. Anyway, the manager of the “Purple Rain” singer chose to jump the queue at an electronics store.

He probably thought, “I manage Prince; what can’t I do?” So, he demanded that the storyteller’s grandfather, the manager of the store, serve him immediately. Being a famous celebrity doesn’t mean you’ll always get your way. This Redditor’s father didn’t care who Prince was and told the manager off.

Alicia Silverstone Had to Go

Alicia Silverstone, star of the renowned teen comedy “Clueless,” is used to getting whatever she wants. Thanks to her role as Batgirl in “Batman & Robin” and appearances in three Aerosmith videos, Silverstone was the ultimate 90s teen idol. But this storyteller’s experience with her was less impressive.

Anyone who’s watched “Clueless” will know why we’re not even surprised Silverstone would storm into a restroom and push someone off the toilet. Well, we’ll try and understand. There’s little you can do when nature calls, right? At least she apologized, which is more than some would’ve done.

Not So Popular, Hilary

In this story, a group of chefs intentionally tormented child star Hilary Duff when she visited their restaurant to eat dinner before a concert. The storyteller asked his friends to allow him to take her order while the star ate with her friends. But it wasn’t to drool over her.

Photo by James Devaney/GC Images/Getty Images

This chef pretended like he didn’t know who Duff was, which made the “Lizzie Mcguire” star ask if he really didn’t know. It must have hurt her feelings when he asked his friends, who also said they didn’t know her. Poor Hilary. We kinda feel bad for her.

A Chitchat With Patrick Stewart

When we think about meeting our favorite celebrities, we usually think of autographs and pictures. But the thought of having a conversation with them is mind-blowing. Over the course of his six-decade acting career, Sir Patrick Stewart has portrayed a number of renowned characters, including Avery Bullock, Stan’s boss in “American Dad.”

Stewart also plays Professor X in the “X-Men” series and Captain Picard in “Star Trek.” He still has a youthful spirit at 80, as proven by this Reddit post. That poor design college student must have had a big scare when the Shakespearean actor barged into the room late at night.

Classic Captain Jack Sparrow Gesture

Several actors and actresses on this list have faced different claims from Redditors, and it’s Hollywood star Johnny Depp’s turn. The legendary actor is no stranger to “claims” anyway. According to the Redditor, Captain Jack Sparrow was giving a speech at a college in the United Kingdom.

Suddenly, someone in the crowd interrupted him because they couldn’t hear. Depp calmly walked up to the person and brought them on stage to join him throughout his speech. It would’ve been better for Depp to just ask for a microphone. But we’re sure this individual heard him clearly afterward.

Bashing Heads With Leonard Nimoy

Actor Leonard Nimoy portrayed the veteran Spock in the “Star Trek” series for almost 50 years. The actor and the role he performed on television and in movies are clearly loved by fans all around the world, which makes this Reddit story even more endearing.

We’re not saying bashing heads with Nimoy is cute. We’re saying it must have been thrilling to meet the actor like that. This sounds like a story that could end with, “and that’s how I met your mother.” But unfortunately for this guy, he didn’t become Nimoy’s stepson.

Beating Andy Rooney Up

Now, most of the stories on this list are just with one celebrity. But imagine meeting two of the best entertainers. In this case, this person’s grandfather not only met one of them but also beat him up so he could take Judy Garland out on a date.

Source: Twitter

Getting so close to these entertainers in itself is already a big feat, but beating one of them up and having the chance to take the other on a date? We really wish this Redditor had shared more details on the identity of their granddad.

Swapping Spit With Bill Murray

There are many things that we wish we could do with our favorite celebrities, but swapping spit may not be one of them…or is it? Haha! This storyteller was only a toddler when “Groundhog Day” star Bill Murray approached him and popped the infant’s pacifier into his mouth.

That’s not all. Someone else claimed Murray came to meet them in a restaurant, grabbed a handful of their fries, and told them, “No one will ever believe you.” This second story is enough for us to conclude the “Ghostbusters” star just goes to anyone doing anything he likes.

Bam! Margera Was Right in His Face

Bam Margera is an American skateboarder who is renowned for starring in the MTV reality stunt show, “Jackass,” and subsequent spinoff series “Viva la Bam.” He was pretty much in our faces in the early 2000s, and he was in his friend’s face in this story.

Margera is renowned for having a strange family and engaging in several daredevil activities. This storyteller, a Spencer’s Gifts staff, was being yelled at by one of Margera’s crew, who demanded that the business be temporarily closed. Margera hit him across the face and apologized to the employee.

Whatcha Gonna Do, Brother?

Terry Eugene Bollea, popularly known as Hulk Hogan, is probably the most famous wrestler in the world. He’s got a big personality to match his fame too. And although he has now retired from professional wrestling, he has left an indelible mark in WWE history.

However, the two stories here don’t portray Hogan to be that great. Firstly, he cut in front of this Redditor’s friend at a barber shop and probably didn’t care. Then another Redditor chipped in to say he had a habit of renting movies without returning them. Yikes.

George R.R. Martin’s Autograph

Sitting next to an accomplished author, George R.R. Martin, on a plane must have been a surreal feeling. For those who don’t know, he’s the creator of “Game of Thrones.” Regardless of how you feel about the show’s ending, it’s a dream to be that close to him.

Now, imagine you engage Martin in a conversation, and he actually responds. What a cool dude. To top it off, he signed an autograph for this Redditor. His year was made. But it wasn’t until later that the storyteller realized he added a sneaky comment on the autograph.

Is This How Batman Runs Gotham?

Adam West is widely known for playing Batman in the 60s tv series “Batman.” But while he’s known to protect Gotham and fight against the bad guys, his real-life self is far from impressive. In this story, a Redditor was kind enough to open the door for him.

There was even a cheerful greeting on top of that. But West, just like Kiefer Sutherland, was having none of it and instead dismissed the teenager angrily. All the guy did was be nice, only to be told by Batman that he should “go to hell.” Awful behavior.

Oprah Almost Killed His Sister

Celebrities are usually in the news for reckless driving, so we can’t say we’re too surprised by this. Oprah Winfrey, the “Queen of All Media,” as she is popularly known, almost ran over this poster’s sister due to some reckless driving. And she didn’t think she needed to apologize either.

According to this Redditor, the philanthropist and talk-show host appeared out of nowhere and nearly took out his family while crossing the street. Oprah didn’t seem sorry for her action and cussed them before driving off again. The storyteller’s mom has hated Oprah ever since that day.

Mike Myers Doesn’t Know How to be Polite

Only Mike Myers could play “Austin Powers” and “Shrek” in the most remarkable way. He’s that talented. The Canadian actor made his feature film debut in the comedy “Wayne’s World” and also became a permanent cast member of “Saturday Night Live” for more than 6 years.

As impressive as that is, it doesn’t mean much if you’re rude. It’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice. Asking someone to buy them a drink is a polite gesture. It wouldn’t have hurt Myers to allow the zealous fans to buy him a drink.

A Run-in With Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Personal Shopper

We’ve seen quite a number of stories from celebrities and their representatives, and here’s another example. This story happened in the 1990s, when bodybuilder and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is Austrian-American, was still a well-known action star and had not yet been elected governor of California.

This Vancouver Redditor and his co-worker were star-struck when the “Terminator” himself came up at their mall kiosk. After an argument with Schwarzenegger’s personal shopper, he was called in to handle a problem involving a hands-free headset. Honestly, it seems the storyteller was at fault here.

Running Into Amber Heard at a Restaurant

Disclaimer: No fingers were chopped off. This New York bartender had a mixed experience with Johnny Depp and ex-wife Amber Heard back when they were still a couple. The pair have just finished a back and forth in court that has stretched back a few years. So, what happened?

Well, we already know for sure that their relationship was toxic. From what this bartender wrote on Twitter, Depp was nice to the staff, even leaving a generous tip. Heard, on the other hand, wasn’t as kind and was even rude to Depp.

Henry Winkler Asked to Get a Bagel

Okay, this one isn’t the typical rude story, but we have a feeling this Redditor typed this with a pang of regret. The legendary Henry Winkler started his career playing Fonzie in “Happy Days,” and he still hasn’t stopped since. The veteran is approaching his 80s!

And he’s starred in “Monsters at Work,” the “Monsters” spinoff. But before the grey hair, this Redditor met a young and charming Winkler strolling into a small food stand and asking if he should get a bagel. This was understandably terrifying for a kid who hadn’t seen “Happy Days.”

A Text From Weird Al Yankovic

Weird AI Yankovic is a chirpy guy known for his unusual character, styles, and comic music. Apparently, he also texts his fan’s friends, telling them what to do. According to this Redditor, the singer-songwriter took one of his fans’ phones and replied to his text. True to his name…Weird.

This Redditor couldn’t get his mail due to an unfortunate motorcycle accident, and this happened. It must be a bit unsettling when you realize your text was read, misunderstood, and replied to by the one and only Weird Al Yankovic. Too bad he can’t prove this to his family.

When Gary Busey Says Go, You GO!

Gary Busey has starred in different supporting roles and reality TV shows and has appeared in over 150 films in his career. But he does have the reputation of being an odd guy. The Texas-born actor is notorious for his erratic and impulsive behavior.

This Redditor was just trying to decide what to order when Busey came into the store. Being the kind guy, the Redditor offered him to go first. The actor turned down the gesture the first time, and when this storyteller persisted, they got the most terrifying yell of their life.

Emeril Lagasse’s Terrible Temper

Emeril Lagasse is an American celebrity chef and restaurateur who is renowned for his cooking skills and dishes. He also has a pretty bad reputation for being quick to temper. It sounds like this is a common trait for chefs because we’re thinking about another one right now.

While Lagasse was promoting one of his shows in the mall, he got incandescent with rage when this Redditor tripped his camera over. He may have good cooking skills but is poor in the communication department. Someone needs to remind Lagasse that the mall is filled with people.

Pete Wentz Intentionally Poured Water on a Hardworking Staff

If you don’t know who this guy is, it’s fine. He’s one of those guys that’s overwhelmed with delusions of grandeur. He is the bassist of the emo band, Fall Out Boy, and according to reports, he has a bad attitude. This story happened while working on a music video.

Photo by Jean Baptiste Lacroix/WireImage/Getty Images

According to this Redditor’s story, Wentz made a mess throughout the video. He had been instructed to throw only a handful of gumballs at Fall Out Boy’s singer and one at the audience but poured a 3-pound-bag on the singer instead. And the storyteller was the next person he soaked.

David Hasselhoff Allegedly Cursed a 7-year-old Boy

This is probably the weirdest of the bunch because why is a grown man cursing at a little child? And not that the kid was doing anything wrong, he just wanted an autograph! This Redditor was 7 or 8 when he met Hasselhoff at the peak of “Baywatch” stardom.

And he did what any fan would do at that time – ask for an autograph. The TV personality ignored and ordered him to “beat it.” Look, we understand that family time is important, but this kiddo was 7 or 8, and the only thing Hasselhoff could think to do was curse him.

Made Fun of by Pauly Shore

Since this guy is a comedian, we are unsure whether this was just a goodhearted joke or not. You can’t be so sure about these celebrities. They’re one thing on camera and a totally different thing off stage. Pauly Shore is a renowned comedian and actor.

He has appeared in films like “Encino Man” and “In the Army Now.” Shore has also produced and directed his autobiographical mockumentary. This Redditor noticed Shore in the restaurant he worked at and served him through the evening. It ended with the actor mocking them after a mistake.

A Fight With Brad Renfro

This reminds us of the granddad who beat Andy Rooney up, only there was no woman involved here. When this story happened, Brad Renfro was playing a tough teen in “The Client,” so we’re not sure if this was “method acting” gone wrong or if he was disrespectful.

This Redditor and his brother got in a fist fight with Renfro, with Joseph Mazzello (the kid from “Jurassic Park”) trying to tell them who they were. Renfro, unfortunately, died at the age of 25 after battling addiction. It was unfortunate because he had so much potential. RIP.

What a Way to Lose a Fan, Dane Cook

Dane Cook is a popular American comedian who is notorious for finding dark humor in the least expected places. His stand-up comedy albums are funny, but it doesn’t seem like his comic extends to his personal life. According to this Redditor, Cook’s not a patient guy.

He was in the storyteller’s town for an episode of his HBO comedy show and kept throwing tantrums. Cook kept badgering the Redditor, who was his driver then. Someone, please tell Cook how the traffic works. Unless he’s got a flying car in his garage, he needs to chill.

Some Erratic Driving by Michael Douglas

This isn’t the first time we’ll hear of poor driving skills from celebrities, right? We’ve seen one on this list today, and here’s another one. Some celebrities are usually driven to their destinations by chauffeurs, while others buy several sportscars and choose to drive them themselves.

Legendary actor Michael Douglas is one of those celebrities who like to drive their own cars. But he almost hit this Redditor with his Porsche 911. Fortunately, no one was hurt, and it ended with a double thumbs up from the storyteller and an “a-ok” sign from the actor.

Guessing Shaquille O’Neal’s Name

Standing at 7 feet 1 inch and weighing 325 pounds, Shaquille O’Neal was one of the NBA’s tallest players while playing. If you met him, you’d not only be intimidated but will start asking yourself if you should know him because he has that aura of a celebrity.

This Redditor’s aunt met Shaq in an elevator and just knew he was famous. So she asked him if she could get an autograph. But Shaq, knowing she didn’t recognize him, gave her a little trivia – guess my name and get the autograph. She didn’t get the autograph.

John Williams Almost Ran Him Over

We’ve had enough of these celebrities trying to run people over with their cars. Here’s yet another example of a near-death experience due to erratic driving. John Williams is a renowned composer and is one of the best of all time. But that doesn’t give you a free pass.

This Redditor was going to see Williams conduct the Boston Symphony Orchestra. On his way, he was almost run down by the composer himself, John Williams. Just out of curiosity, what would it feel like to be hit by someone with 25 Grammy Awards? We don’t wanna know.

Stampeded by Kerry Kittles

For people who don’t know, Kerry Kittles is a former basketball player who played for the Los Angeles Clippers and the New Jersey Nets. To be fair, he was a good player and still holds some records today, but he doesn’t seem to be great with kids.

This Redditor went to their first New Jersey Nets game when they were 8 and waited to meet some of the players after the game. The kid went over to meet Kittles as he walked away, but the former basketballer just knocked him over and stepped on him. Woah.

Colin Farrell Played it Cool

This is one of the few good experiences in this story. An actual celebrity behaving like a cultured human – we’re happy. This Redditor’s friend went to a posh restaurant with his girlfriend and met one of the most popular actors at the time, Colin Farrell.

Celebrities are usually in the photo, not the ones taking it. So, we understand why Farrell didn’t understand at first. But he handled himself pretty well in the situation and took a nice picture of the lovely couple. They still have the photo to this day. We love this one.

Jamie Who? Get Outta the Way, You Foxx!

Jamie Foxx is a Grammy Award-winning singer and has also starred in several hit movies. He’s undoubtedly one of the most talented entertainers in Hollywood. Foxx also comes across as a lovely dude, and this story doesn’t change that perception. It just wasn’t the conventional fan-celebrity meeting.

This Redditor shared their experience while the filming of “Law Abiding Citizen” was going on. Many of the scenes were shot at the City Hall, making this Redditor’s task more difficult. So, he was taking his job seriously when he yelled, “Outta my way, Jamie Foxx!” and shoved him aside.

Running Into Dominic Monaghan

We’ve heard that Dominic Monaghan is a difficult person to work with on set. The word on the street is that he has been fired before. However, this isn’t one of them. It was just a weird run-in with a production crew, and the celebrity actually handled it well.

This Redditor’s sister bumped into Monaghan and blurted out of the celebrity’s well-known characters, “Hobbit!” Well, he didn’t take it personally, and he only giggled or snorted as he walked away. Monaghan played Meriadoc “Merry” Brandybuck, one of Frodo’s closest friends in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.

Shane MacGowan Pissed on His Shoes

When you hear the popular “Fairytale of New York” every year, especially during the holidays, just know that it is Shane MacGowan in your ears. He’s an Irish-English singer from the Celtic punk band, The Pogues. MacGowan is talented and can play the guitar, piano, and banjo.

But he is also known for his bad manners. According to this Redditor, the singer pissed on his shoes while at a bar, and he reported to the manageress. She responded, saying it “happens to every man around here eventually, mate.” Apparently, MacGowan goes around peeing on people.

Don Cheadle (or Cheetah) Shows Up

Since this took place at a Blockbuster store, we are inclined to believe it is an old story. But according to this Redditor, a customer ordered the Japanese fantasy classic, “How’s Moving Castle.” He misheard the customer’s name after repetitions and ended up writing down “Cheetah.”

Cheadle, Cheetah, what’s the difference? Right? Well, instead of meeting Mr. Cheetah, our storyteller met Mr. Cheadle, the renowned actor, director, writer, and producer who has starred in numerous hit movies and television shows. Well, we don’t think anything bad happened, but it must have been embarrassing.

Have Some Courtesy, Al Roker

Remember when Bill Murray took some people’s fries and told them no one would believe them? Apparently, Al Roker thinks he can just fart out loud in an elevator and just get on without apologizing. We understand some gas pops out unexpectedly, but at least apologize for it.

This is a strange story that’ll be hard to believe, so he probably thought, “no one’s gonna believe you.” The Redditor and the popular American weather forecaster just acted as if nothing had happened. Maybe he should have given some wind forecast for that day to warn innocent people.

Bill Cosby Threw Her Under the Bus

Some of the celebrities on this list have faced quite serious claims in their careers, including Bill Cosby. He even did some jail time too. Cosby is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and author. But in recent years, we’ve heard some not-so-good characteristics of the actor.

This is one of the stories. According to this Redditor’s story, her mom made a mistake with the scheduling of a book signing which made fans arrive 30 minutes early. The disgraced actor didn’t take it well and instead yelled and threw her under the bus in front of fans.
